Bila Flores

Artist Bio

Bila Flores is a self-taught artist who discovered her passion for mixed media painting at age 64. Since then, she has been turning canvases into vibrant landscapes that portray a glimpse of Peru’s rich history and identity.

Born in Samne, a small village in the North of Peru, Bila Flores immigrated to Trujillo as a teenager where she had a short career as a bullfighter. Seeking a better future for her children, she settled in Lima where she learned a variety of handmade crafts that allowed her to make extra cash while running modest small businesses as a seamstress and restaurant owner.

Bila Flores’ interest in her native Peru is reflected in the artwork she portrays on her mysterious canvas. She is also a generous mentor and teaches her unique art and technique to impoverished young women.
The artist hopes to present her paintings to an appreciating audience who may want to learn more about mystical places like Nazca and Cusco portrayed in the Nazca Lines Series and the Cusco Legend Series.

Bila Flores is the mother of filmmaker Mabel Valdiviezo and still dreams of making her first trip to the USA to visit her daughter.
