Prodigal Daughter is a one-hour personal documentary that chronicles my return to Peru and quest to reunite with my family and heal the emotional wounds and cultural rift caused by 16 years of separation. Economic desperation drove each of us to go our separate ways, a family diaspora that reached from Peru to the United States, Japan and beyond. Ironically, our tenacious pursuit of a better life has ravaged my family’s assets, causing further poverty while destroying the tight bond we once shared. Will my return to Peru be a catalyst for reconciliation, or will our determination to immigrate keep us apart? Will we be able to overcome the barriers that now separate us?
