Prodigal Daughter is the intensely personal quest of Americanized filmmaker Mabel Valdiviezo to reconcile with her family in Lima, Peru after 16 years of separation. Faced with her family’s hostility and the appalling legacy of the Fujimori regime Mabel embarks on a emotionally charged journey to recover the strong voice of her past rebel punk days, in a tale of unexpected healing and transformation for our globally diasporic times.  This personal documentary is about the high price so many immigrants pay for leaving their country behind. Can we ever truly go back home after so many years away? Why do immigrants end up with fractured families? Will Mabel be able to overcome the barriers that now separate her from her family?
